I hope everyone had a great weekend! I an so sorry for not updating last week.  My baby has been sick with a horrible virus and I was out two days last week.  Thank you all for being patient with me.  Here are a few announcements for this week:

The band is having a concert tonight in the cafeteria at 6pm.  I hope you will make plans to attend.

We will have our Christmas party on Wednesday around 10.  We will eat, watch a movie, and play dirty Santa. Please send the $10 gift card to play dirty Santa with. 

Each student needs to bring in 10 cans. The can drive ends in January.

December 2 - 6

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break!! We have just a few weeks left before Christmas break.


Here are a few announcements for this week:

This is our annual 5th and 6th Grade fundraiser providing Christmas for families identified by DHR as needy. We are asking each student to provide $5 in support of this program. The money is due December 12th.

We will also have our Christmas Party on December 18th in the afternoon.  We will need the following:

Drinks (we would prefer a few 2 - liter drinks if more than one person wants to provide drinks)
Cups 
Plates
Napkins
Sweet treats (we can have a few of these)
Chips/dip

We also ask that each student bring a $10 gift card to play dirty Santa.  Each student will need to purchase and wrap (noted on the outside as being "for a boy" or "for a girl") a $10 gift card; male students a card appropriate for a male and female appropriate for a female.

Can-a-thon: Many have already participated in this canned food collection for the needy, but we understand that the effort will continue until sometime in January. We are hoping that each student will donate 10 cans of food. Thank you again for your generosity.

November 18-22

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Here are a few announcements for the week:

The kitchen item is due tomorrow! We need it for the basket they will be auctioning off at the Patriot Market this Friday. Our homeroom only has 10 items for the basket. Please help!!

So far PLAS has brought in 1114 cans.  That was the count we got Friday.  The can food drive in from now until sometime in January.  We have requested that each student bring in 10 cans.  

If you have not sent me your email please do so. It is much easier to send out a group email about homeroom activities that way. :)

There is a new PEPI menu and price list going home today.  Please check the communication folder for that.

We will dismiss school at 11:50 on Friday, November 22.  There will be no after school care.

Mid Week Update

The PTO has postponed the Movie under the Stars due to the uncertainty of weather.  It will be rescheduled.

School will dismiss at 11:50 on Friday, November 22 due to the State Playoff games at Troy University.

November 12-15

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  Thank you again to all of the troops who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom.  Thanks again for all who came to support the 5th and 6th graders during the Veterans Day program.  It was awesome!!

Here are a few announcements for the week:

Movie under the Stars will be Thursday night.

We are also doing a can drive starting now until We come back after Christmas.  Every student is encouraged to bring atleast 10 cans.

The Veggie sell has also started.  A paper about that went home in their folders today. 

We are also doing an art project in class.  Please send magazines to school so we can work on our project.

Veteran's Day Program

The Veteran's Day Program will be Friday, November 8th.  All veterans and parents are invited to attend. Please invite anyone you know that is a veteran to the program which is at 10:00 on Friday morning and to a breakfast which will begin at 8:45.  The students need to wear the following:

boys- khaki pants and red, white, or blue collared shirt (no t-shirts please)

girls- khaki pants or dress with red, white or blue shirt.  ( no t-shirts please) 

We want to look our best and let all of the men and women who have served how much we appreciate their sacrifices and give them a big THANK YOU!!!

Grandparents Day is this Friday. The 5th and 6th grade program starts at 11:00am We ask that all of the students dress nice.  Boys- khaki shorts/pants and a button down shirt (polo). Girls- wear a dress or pants with nice shirt.  Grandparents can check their student out in their homeroom.  We ask that the grandparents come back to the room after the program to sign their student out. I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!! Here are a few announcements for this week:

All visitors must come through the main office before going to any classroom or other building.

You can now add money to your pepi card using pay pal on www.pepifoods.com.

School Day pictures will be made next week.  Grades K4-2^nd grade will be Tuesday, 3^rd-6^th grade on Wednesday, 7^th-11^th grade on Thursday, and Friday is makeup day.

Please check achieve for your child's grades. It should be loaded by Wednesday.  

6th grade parents, please send the $10.00 for the float by Wednesday.  We need to go ahead and get the money collected so we can buy the needed supplies. Thanks!!

April 25,2013

The SGA's annual powder puff game will be held on Monday. The price of admission will be $2.00 per person. The chance for a cure mega-phones will be sold for $1.00 to honor cancer patients. Please send the money with your child as soon as possible. All money goes to relay for life.

The school has a summer reading program for the seventh grade. There is a form being sent home with the titles of the books as well as the price of the books. The office orders the books and each student will be required to pay for the books or they will be added to your account.

APRIL 22/26

Tuesday, April 23, 2013 Permission slips for the field trip will be sent home today. Please sign and return them by Thursday, April 25, 2013. If you are driving I am sending a note to let you know that the office needs a copy of your proof of insurance card and driver's license by  tomorrow if  possible.

April 29 - May 3

-The beauty pageants for grades K4-8^th grade is Monday, April 29. The 9^th grade-12^th grade is Tuesday, April 30. 

-Last day to make AR goals is May 1st. Please check with your child to see if they have made their goals. A.R. is for a grade!

Mid week Update

We will be having the celebration/baby shower on Friday. The students do not need to bring snack with them.  We will have cake and other goodies for them to eat.  We will dismiss at 11:50 on Friday with no after school! Thanks and please spread the word to the other parents :)

April 8-9

Here are a few announcements for this week:

School will dismiss early at 11:30 Friday due to the prom.  The lunchroom will be closed so the students need to bring snack. No after-school that day.

April 2-5

I hope everyone had a great spring break!! Here are a few announcements for the upcoming week and weeks:

- As you know SAT testing will begin next week. Please have your child here no later than 7:50 each day.  This will give them plenty of time to get pencils sharpened, bathroom, and prepare for the test. Also, please be mindful that we are only testing 3 days.  We may have to push some of the test until afternoon, therefore please do not plan on getting your child from school until alteast after 1:30 (if they have to check-out for some reason).

- If any of the parents would like to send orange juice, fruit or snacks for those 3 days please let me know.

-The tennis match scheduled with Fort Dale on Tuesday, April 9^th has been rescheduled for this Friday, April 5 at 3:00 at Troy University.

- Congratulations to Angie Lewis for receiving recognition and an award for her art and poetry in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2013. Congratulations to Joel Kervin for being selected as a winner in the State Farm-City Essay Contest.

News from 4-H:  4-H County Competition Day will be Saturday, April 6 at Troy Elementary, 4-H Summer Camp registration is June 19-21 at the 4-H Center in Columbiana.  Please get your registration form into the Extension office.

Varsity Baseball/Softball teams will play at 2:00 pm today because their opponents have no lights.  Sorry for the last minute change.

Congratulations to Savannah Hollis and Cade Thomas for winning second place in the AISA State Science Fair.

There is a Tennis Match today at Troy University beginning at 3:00 pm for the Patriots.  Please come support your Patriots in their first home match.

Congrats to Kaylee Ferraro for winning 1st Place in District Science Fair. She will be representing PLAS in the State science fair on Thursday!! We wish Kaylee GOOD LUCK!!!

The 9 weeks ends March 12th.

Spring Break- is March 25th - March 29th. We are also out April 1 for Easter holiday.

SAT testing will be April 5th - 9th. I know this is along way out but maybe we can schedule appointments around this so your child will not be out of school those days.

January 29th UPDATE!

The Regional Basketball Tournament begins tomorrow, Wednesday, January 30, at Huntingdon College.  The Girls will play Lee-Scott at 5:30 pm and the Boys will play Lee-Scott at 7:00 pm.  Thank you for supporting your Patriots.

If anyone has any instruments that are in good condition and they would like to donate them to the PLAS, please do so.  We are in the process of forming a band for next year and need instruments. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

There is a possibility of severe weather tomorrow, Wednesday, January 30.  Please use caution in making your way to school.  Monitor conditions carefully

PTO is sponsoring a dance for the 5th - 8th grade students on Thursday, February 14, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the PLAS Cafetorium.  DJ Hendock will provide the music.  Tickets may be purchased in the office for $5 in advance or $7 at the door.

January 28- February 1

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Here are a few announcements from this week.

 The girl’s basketball team will play Wednesday afternoon at 6:30 and the boys will play at 8:00.  Both games are against Lee-Scott.

 Please remember the following families in your prayers:  Mrs. Robyn Lowe’s family (due to the death of her father Robert Lyle); and to Mr. Willie Pryor’s family due to his death Thursday night.  We will let you know of the funeral arrangements of Mr. Willie as we get the details.  A love offering will be taken up for the family.

The Brundidge Rotary Club is selling Boston Butts for $25.00.  If you are interested in purchasing one, please see Becky Sanders.  You will be able to pick them up from her on Friday, Feb. 3^rd.  This is a fundraiser for scholarships many of which have been awarded to our Pike Liberal Arts Seniors through the years.

We will have our Valentine Party on Thursday, February 14th. The students will need to bring a shoe box to decorate at school.  We will also need some volunteers to bring desserts, plates, and napkins.

The Blue Jean Ball will be held on February 23, 2013, at the Troy Country Club.  Entertainment will include "County Line" featuring Benji Sanders and there will be a silent auction. Tickets are $25 per person or $40 per couple.  Hors d'oeuvres are included in the ticket price. You can contact the PLAS office for more information.

The Can-A-Thon continues through January 25th.my homeroom: 10 cans will get your child a homework pass!  Please bring in your cans by then. 

We are out on January 21st in observance of Martin Luther King JR. day.

Please check your child's communication folder. The school is selling yoyos and cookie dough.
